Burrow -vs- Dalton/Palmer/Brady/Mahomes

Before the season I wanted to track the progress of Burrow throughout the year with reasonable statistics to compare against the greats (Brady and Mahomes) and other Bengal signal callers (Dalton and Palmer). A lot changed when the pre-season was scrubbed so I had to wait until at least two weeks of data to look at comparisons. The data is still a bit skewed because all of the other QBs had four pre-season games to hone their skilzz.

Week 1

Mahomes28462.9%0121.49

The small dataset tells me that even in the first game Burrow’s OL stinks but he underperformed in comparison. This is likely due to the lack of preseason games under his belt and perhaps a better defense than the other players faced. I think we can all agree that Burrow had a great first game and exceeded our expectations.

Week 2

We know that in Game 2 Burrow statistically balled out against the Browns. It was interesting to see that Andy Dalton also threw for a lot of yards and an impressive completion %. Burrow was only bested by Patrick Mahomes in the overall BGM (that’s BengalsGM) Score which comes as no surprise.

Cumulatively here is where these guys end up:

BGM Score Total
Burrow6.07
Dalton7.01
Palmer2.67
Brady-0.19
Mahomes7.07
Average4.52

The above also does not factor in rushing yards or rushing TDs. It is also not indicative of long-term success. Clearly Tom Brady is better than everyone on that list (for now at least) and the data suggests that Andy Dalton was on par with Mahomes. As the season progresses though we will watch this closely to evaluate the progression and comparison of Burrow’s season. Things are looking positive though!
