HTT…..R? That isn’t going to be figured out for a while but it doesn’t matter because one of our Bengal family members is in our Nation’s capital. This week’s fan highlight is Bud Marcum who like many kids loved the striped helmets and remembers our glory years. Let’s get to know Bud.
Please give me a background profile on yourself. Name, age, location, interest in football?
Bud Marcum, 39, currently in Washington DC. Huge interest in football, really grew when I started playing Fantasy Football 10 years ago. Bengals get priority on the TV, but RedZone is a must on the iPad!
How did you choose to become a Bengals fan?
Without sounding too cliché, the Bengals chose ME! Born in 1981, the year of the first 49ers SB. As a child it was the tiger helmets that drew me in, been a diehard ever since.
Have you ever seen a game in Cincinnati?
Sadly no, 17 Bengals games attended over the years but all on the road. Was planning to be at the Jags game this year but we will see what 2020 has in store for us…. Been waiting to go hangout at Bengal Jims BTR tailgate, Bengals Captain and all the folks in 158!
Who is your favorite player and why?
Always tough to pick just one, but have to go with Chad. An all around great dude, have been fortunate to have a few interactions with him and he is a riot. Fastest feet in the game and STILL doesn’t get the credit he deserves outside of WhoDey nation.
Are you able to watch games in D.C.?
EVERY game is watched!! My wife and daughter and all jumped on the wagon over the years as well so its great to make it a family event on Sundays. Hard to get a 16 year old daughter to focus but…. Funny enough, my wife of 15 years was a Giants fan when I met her…. I quickly had her retire the Eli jersey and worked very specific Bengal fan language into the prenup….
How many wins will the Bengals have in 2020?
In life in general I am a realist…with that being said, when it comes to our Bengals, I am as optimistic as one can get. All the pieces are in place for us to go at least 9-6 this year and snag a wild card. Improved O-line, D-line looks ready to be top 3 this year, whole free agency spending focused on fixing defense. Great draft class coming in that can contribute out the gate and the team has a chip on their shoulders coming off a 2-14 year… I expect big things this season.
Is the NFL popular in D.C.?
Very popular. Sadly I have the Ravens 45 minutes north and the Redskins 15 minutes from my front door. WAY too many Steeler fans running around here too. I always rock the orange and black to let them know what real football looks like.
What is one thing you would like to tell Bengals fans about where you live?
Formerly being in the Army, I have lived all over this great country and interacted with every type of person. No matter where I go, I can always count on finding a few Bengals fan to make it feel like home. I would say its an unspoken bond, but its actually spoken very loud….countless times I have been somewhere and out of nowhere you hear a loud “WhoDey”. You quickly scan the crowd until you find the orange and BOOM, you know that person and they become part of the crew!
Have you ever played football?
1998 Richmond Flag Football Church League Champion. Played WR and wore #85 in honor of Ocho. Had about 136 TD receptions that year on 140 receptions (sadly, stats weren’t maintained online so you’ll have to trust me)
What kind of food do you prepare on game day?
Aside from watching the game, this is the best part. We always have a decent spread of chips, dips, hot dogs, beer cheese and all the liquid essentials (meaning Bud Light Orange of course) The game Dey staple is always a pot of chili! Skyline always on standby for the dogs of course, but each Sunday morning around 6am, all the usual ingredients and some secrets go into the crockpot to simmer up for 7 hours until that 1pm kickoff! #WhoDey #SeizetheDey
