News came out today that Trae Waynes is getting a second opinion on a pectoral injury that could require two months of extensive rehab. There was no report of surgery needed but it is likely too early to tell. This could be why his contract was held up but the Bengals signed him anyway.
This is bad news for a reborn secondary who saw Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard leave in free agency. Dennard is signed and Dre is available but reports are that he is working at a grocery store since he couldn’t tackle any other job (see what I did there). If Waynes can’t go the Bengals need to find another boundary corner to pair with WJ3 and Mackensie Alexander.
Here is a list of all available FA.
Josh Norman was terrible for the Redskins…ummmm Washington Football Team….whatever. Trumaine Johnson was not that much better. Third on the list is Dre….so when Dre is third it is clear that it is a bit empty on the market. After Dre it is a bunch of big name washed up guys who are old or players who were below average (BW Webb).
I would like to see Darius Phillips be given the chance to start if Waynes can’t go for a while. Phillips really came on at the end of 2019 and this could only help his growth. He can’t be worse than the current FA market right now and that defensive line is going to help the corners a lot more in 2020.
The Bengal world will be monitoring this Waynes issue closely but this is not good news by any means. Here is to a speedy recovery Trae!
