What the heck is he talking about you just said. Yes I am advocating for a veteran QB now. If there is one certainty it is that the 2020-2021 season is going to be weird. Like walking in on your grandma showering weird. Players are going to get COVID, go into quarantine and go on and off the roster all throughout the season. This could impact the tier 1 teams bumping them down and losing some extra games. The healthy could prevail….but so could the healthier of the two.
QB is the most important position on the field. No matter what Joe Burrow is going to be learning all season but if for some reason he is hurt or contracts COVID the Bengals have a unique opportunity to still be competitive and perhaps squeeze some wins out that they would have maybe lost if the opposing team is also handling an outbreak. Baseball has decided to cancel games (as of right now) but I would bet that football will carry on.
Having a competent backup QB could be the diamond in the rough to get us an extra 1 or 2 wins this season (if something terrible happened…..like Joe catches a cold for a day even). The FA QB market is really empty right now and I do not see the Bengals signing Kaepernick. McCown is the best FA left on the market after Flacco and Moore were scooped up. I even wrote an article about this on May 4th because I have psychic abilities.
Geoff Hobson even said “the Burrow deal gives them three quarterbacks, but they could be in the market for picking up a veteran as head coach Zac Taylor mulls the question of quarantining quarterbacks….” If we put McCown in a glass case with the playbook and the new Madden it might be a smart investment for the Bengals. Think about it.
