The Bengals have started their first moves in free agency signing CB – Tony Brown to a one-year deal and today releasing LT – Cordy Glenn. Neither of these moves come as a surprise to Bengals fans. Glenn became a cancer to the team after refusing to play last season with a concussion, though medically cleared. Brown is a depth signing and a hedge that the Bengals will lose (Dennard) one and cut (Kirkpatrick….please for the love of God) another.
Now that Jonah Williams is healthy and ready to kick off his rookie…..cough…cough…second year Glenn became expendable. The Bengals are still short a few starters on the offensive line but losing Glenn based off of 2019 is not going to make this unit worse. To be competitive this season the Bengals will still need to find a starter on the OL in FA and if they could draft a future RT that would be swell.
If the Bengals decide to re-sign Dennard or keep Kirkpatrick then Tony Brown fits into a rotation in the dime or even playing the nickel slot. This will be important since Dennard was one of the better nickel’s in the league, despite wanting to be a border defender. Darius Phillips was a savior in the backfield and paired up with Jackson III the future looks brighter moving forward. If the Bengals can snag a safety to rotate in with Williams then we are just missing some LBs for our 2020 Super Bowl run.
